Conference Overview
GLACIE is proud to present its 27th annual Cooperative Learning Conference, Achievement through Active Engagement, to be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on May 24 and 25, 2012. This rewarding opportunity for professional growth will allow educators to come together to learn and share structures and strategies of cooperative learning through active participation.
“Students learn best when they are motivated and actively engaged in their learning.”A Guide to Effective Literacy Instruction, Ontario Ministry of Education (2005), 49.
The keynote session will be delivered by Drs. David and Roger Johnson, professors at the University of Minnesota and award-winning directors of the Cooperative Learning Center. This interactive presentation from two of the pioneers of cooperative learning will explore how it has evolved and will continue to be a vital force in the classroom.
Presenters in plenary sessions will provide valuable information on topics including: Character Education, Literacy and Numeracy, Student Success, Brain-Based Instruction, Dealing with Exceptionalities and At-Risk Students, Academic Controversy, Increasing Achievement, Differentiated Instruction, and more.
Our ever popular pre-conference event features a full day with internationally acclaimed researcher, presenter and author, Dr. Spencer Kagan. His topic this year is “Mastering Memory: Instructional Strategies for the Brain’s Five Memory Systems”.
Networking opportunities are plentiful within many of the interactive sessions, as well as during breaks and in the hospitality suite. Whether you are just beginning your cooperative learning journey, or are a long-time practitioner, this dynamic event will inspire and motivate you!
